About Me
J. L. Whitehead has been writing professionally since 1989,initially beginning his career as a contributing freelance columnist for PGN, Incorporated located inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania. After writing for the publication for a year, he published his first chap book of poetry entitled Universal Words while enjoying various speaking engagements and poetry exhibitions. His works included making contributions to a book of poetry and prose for African American men entitled A Warm December in 1989. In 2002, he became a contributing writer and editor for an online magazine entitled Never2Funky. In 2007, he became a journalist for a national web site entitled GBMNews. This online publication is a news reporting website where he contributed commentaries and reviews as well as addressing issues of concern and interest as it pertains to the LGBTQI communities. In 2010, he began writing for The Examinerpublication, reporting and providing commentary on local events in the Philadelphiaand New Jersey areas. In addition, hehas conducted in depth interviews and reviews of local area authors as well asshowcasing their work respectively. Also in 2010, his debut novel, Bruthas was released. After revising the novel in 2011, it was re-released under Four Brothers Publications. In 2011, he wrote the manuscript for Bruthas the theatrical production, an adaptation of his novel. It is with this production that he is making his directorial debut.
