About Me

I am a woman of many faces who wears many hats. I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a friend, a coworker and a lover of peace and equality for all. I have had many many dark days since I have been on this planet and I have managed to channel the negative energy into positive energy. Each day meets me with a new challenge that I rise to or because I am human, I fall prey to. It's a struggle most days because I am ever reminded that I have character defects that can sometimes bring me to my boiling point. A boiling point that many years ago would have led me to self injure.

I decided to write about my experiences with self injury and interviewed other people of color who have self injured. I was surprised at the eagerness that they displayed when I asked if they were interested in being featured in my book. I am forever grateful to them all for their courage and for the trust they had in me as a stranger, and also the trust they had in me as a member of the "cutting club". I hope you enjoy my book!!!

What's the last book you've read?

American Dreams by Sapphire

What's your favorite book and why?

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is one of my favorite books. I was moved by Miss Morrison's descriptive third person views and oftentimes felt that I was reliving Pecola's life as I could relate to the incest, child molestation and racism. I remember praying as did Pecola not for eyes of blue but for darker skin. If only I had darker skin people would see that I was beautiful.

About Me

My name is Vanessa Morgan and I Go Hard is my first book. It's based on a true story.  My son Malik was shot which left him paralyzed from the waist down.  My second book is titled Dazed and it is a collection of short stories and poems.  The book also features poems written by my son.  My son wanted to be a rapper and I was just living my life.  Neither one of us knew we would be writing books and sharing our story with the world.  We followed our hearts and took a journey of love and understanding which changed our relationship from mother and son to friends.  We helped each other overcome hurt and disappointment to find unconditional love.

What's your favorite book and why?

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.  It's my favorite book because it evoked some much emotion in me and it was so thought provoking. I saw the world differently after reading that book and I knew I would write one day.  I didn't know what exactly.  :)

About Me

I am an aspiring author. I will be releasing my children's book series late 2011. The first book out that series will be Visiting Daddy. I am 22 years young and I have been writing for most of my life. I write poems, short stories, and am currently working on a novel. I write about things that I know and have experience with which gives me the range to cover a wide variety of topics instead of one. I don't censor my writing and am not afraid to tackle subjects most people would be afraid of approaching. I am very unique in my style. i can only hope that by being different and breaking out of the norm that it will help me succeed.

What's the last book you've read?

Strawberry Mansion

What's your favorite book and why?

Tears of a Tiger because it was a heart wrenching story. It was about how Andy couldn't get over the guilt of his friend dying in a car accident. I love that story and have read it every year since 8th grade.

About Me

Writing is everything to me and though I have put it on the back burner for year because of listening to certain people and making up my own excuses, those day's are done. I feel like each life is a poem written by the way we live our lives. So I have decided at this point in my life that it's time to put pen to paper and fingers to keys and embrace my passion which is writing. I am a native of Charlotte, North Carolina with a very simple life mission, for my actions and words to become visual images of a different way of living. My goal is to provide people with the "truths" of how choices, good and bad, have the potential to form their destiny. Sharing the results of my negative actions are not mere words; however, the results of those actions have proven to be many people's reality self-check. I am a protrait of ONE NEGATIVE CHOICE, but despite my past I have RISEN and OVERCOME. I have learned to use those choices and turn what has been something negative into something positive. I am a successful business owner, writer, Motavational Speaker, husband, father, and college graduate with a BS in Psychology. I share the beauty and pain of my life so that others don't find themselves in the same position. I desire for all to know that using the consequesnces of negative choices and hard failures as stepping stones in making positive living achievable, attainable, and life enriching. My motto is "Life and Death swing on the hinges of the CHOICES we make".

The Four Agreements

What's your favorite book and why?

I honestly don't have a favorite, but my favorite kinds are books that seek to reveal a truth about a topic, or anything that makes the reader think beyond that which is common.
