About Me

Thomas Overton is an ambitious new entrepreneur, Author, and screenwriter who simply stumbled upon his ability and career as a writer. With no real experience, he embarked on a journey that would lead him to being a published author and a journeyman.

Tom's love affair with writing started while he was a Business Major, studying full-time at Drexel University. Several of his college professors told him that they enjoyed reading his work and that he was a good writer. He'd written numerous term papers and his professor’s complements began to spark his writing interests. During his senior year, Tom got into some trouble with the law and was sentenced to do two years in the County Prison. Nonetheless, his college education had to wait while he did his time and paid his debt to society. While incarcerated, Tom decided to put his skills to use and practice the talents he had been praised for while attending college. The talent of being a good writer.

In order to avoid insanity, depression, and boredom often caused by incarceration, Tom came up with a writing concept that one of his fellow inmates thought would be a great movie. Since he didn’t know how to structure a movie script, he had David Trottier's "Screenwriters' Bible", Robert McKee's "Story," and several other books written on screenwriting sent to where he was being housed. Tom studied the screenwriting books from front to back and at the completion of his two-year bid, he'd written six complete screenplays, eleven summaries for future stories, and thirty-two titles.

Since his release from prison, obtaining a literary agent or a film deal was difficult. So, instead of waiting on the industry to come to him, Tom bought himself to the industry. He decided to convert one of his completed screenplays into a novel. While writing the novel, Tom met an independent publisher who liked the story and decided to publish it. His first novel is titled "Murder With A Deadly Weapon". IN STORES NOW!!

His second novel, "Keys to the Franchise" will be released in 2011 through his own publishing company called Live2Die Publishing.

Live2Die Publishing came from Tom's vision of seeing more hungry undiscovered writers become published Authors. Tom reaches out to other urban authors, incarcerated writers, and those who write as a hobby considering expanding their art. As a visionary leading the Urban/African American Author into the next generation, Tom seeks to expand his brand and turn more Urban novels into film. To coincide with his book publishing endeavors, Mr. Overton works as a free lance writer broadening his writing ability and a public speaker. Currently, Thomas resides in Darby, Pennsylvania, which is located just outside of Philadelphia, with his family.

The Cookbook Collector

What's your favorite book and why?

The original Green Mile. It was originally a 8 book series. It was so well written that I was in awe. Stephan King really sat down and took his time with this one. I completely absorbed this book.

Currently Reading (when time allows): "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry (novel)

What's your favorite book and why?

Technically, I don't have a "favorite" book because just when I settle on something, I'll read another book and that will be knocked off the pedestal.  I do love every book I've ever read by Stephen King.

What's the last book you've read?

72 Hour Hold by Bebe Moore Campbell

What's your favorite book and why?

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold because the way that it is so remarkably told and that it flows seamlessly.  I would have never thought that a story told in the voice of a chracter who is dead could be so beautifully written.  I have read a lot of wonderfully written books but this one has become my absolute favorite because of the way it tells the story in such a way that it makes you feel as if you are experiencing this with her.  I found myself talking to the characters as if they could actually hear me and any book that does that is amazing.
